Baita Paradiso

Among the high-altitude meadows of Passo San Pellegrino, a mountain hut where time seems to stand still and mountain cuisine still tastes like home.

There are places where simply walking through the door is enough to bring back the feeling of a mountain world from another time. Baita Paradiso is one of them. Surrounded by the high-altitude pastures of Passo San Pellegrino, next to the top of the Costabella chairlift, it is a place to pause, take in the Dolomite views and rediscover the simple pleasure of a generous mountain meal.

The hut has been restored while preserving its original character, with details that tell the story of traditional mountain architecture: 18th-century wooden beams, stone furnishings, porphyry floors and an old wooden Stube. Stepping inside means leaving the rush of everyday life behind and finding a warm, authentic setting where the landscape seems to continue indoors.

Then there is the food: simple, generous and exactly what you would hope to find during a mountain break. At Baita Paradiso, everything is homemade, from the bread and pasta to the desserts. The menu includes tagliatelle with tomato sauce, sausages and grilled meats, alongside dishes rooted in traditional mountain cooking, such as potato gnocchi, polenta and hearty soups made with broad beans, lentils and barley. Barley is also paired with beans, bringing together flavours from the culinary traditions of Trentino and neighbouring Veneto.

And then come the homemade desserts: apple cake, tiramisu, strudel, Sacher and Lienzer Torte, as well as the rustic and fragrant buckwheat cake with almonds and blueberries. Familiar flavours, carefully prepared and full of the comforting taste of food made slowly and with care.

The location makes Baita Paradiso an ideal destination for anyone who wants to experience the mountains without giving up convenience. Passo San Pellegrino, around 11 kilometres from Moena, lies on the border between Trentino and the province of Belluno, while the hut can be easily reached by the Costabella chairlift. From here, a trail crosses the Campagnaccia pastures and leads to Passo Selle, about an hour away on foot.

Summer or winter, the landscape changes, but the essence of Baita Paradiso remains the same: wood, stone, mountain pastures and food that tastes like home.
